Times Tables Rockstars is an online programme to support children in learning their tables. Knowing all of the times table facts up to 12 x 12 continues to be an important milestone in children's maths learning and is a key outcome in the National Curriculum. The expectation is that all children will know all these facts by the end of year 4. In order to support the children to achieve this we have bought in a tool to help - that the children will enjoy.
Each class will be shown how to login and get started with the games at home. Every two weeks, the children who have improved their 'Rock Status' will receive a certificate and may find their name on one of the leaderboards that will be up around the school. The leaderboards are focused on the level of improvement that the children are making over a two week period so there is equal opportunity for all children to reach the top ten in each category.
The TT Rockstars website is very straight forward to use and, once logged in, the children can play 1 minute games to earn tokens which can be spent on upgrading their own 'Rock Avatar'. As per our homework policy, we would expect the children to login and practise a minimum of 3 times a week for 10 minutes to try and improve their speed and accuracy. There is also a TT Rockstars App that can be downloaded to phones and tablets to make it as accessible as possible. The website also offers the opportunity for children to play against their friends or other children in their Year group.
The attached Parent Guide from TT Rockstars outlines a suggested 20 week programme and an order to work on the tables at home. The tables are scaffolded to ensure that children in Year 3 and 4 are not questioned on all tables up to 12x12 immediately. However, it is an expectation from the National Curriculum that all children can recall their tables up to 12x12 by the end of Year 4.
Any questions that are specific to your child's learning of times tables should be directed to the class teacher.
