School day

The children come into school a year group at a time (see below). This works really well for managing the arrival of 360 children. It is the expectation that children arrive at school at the time that they are due. Trying to be prompt rather than early, so that the flow of children works well and we can say good morning to all the children. There many be challenges with arriving at the exact time if you have siblings at Hassocks Infants. If this is the case please try and arrive as close to the time for your year group as possible. 

The gate is shut at 8.55 am. All children arriving after this time must report to the office to indicate they are on school premises and will be marked as late.

Each year group has an allocated time for collection at the end of the day. Each year group has the same amount of hours in the building (32.5 hours per week). 

Attendance and absences

Parents are expected to keep absences to a minimum. All children are expected to be in school for a minimum of 96% of the time; over the year this equals only a few days off for sickness. Holidays are not permitted during term time. Such absences will not be authorised and will incur a fine in accordance with WSCC school policy on absence. By law, parents are required to ensure that their children of compulsory school age are registered at school and attend regularly. Absence should only occur when a child is unfit to learn or has a day of religious observance. For children to achieve all they are capable of, it is essential that they attend school regularly and punctually. Broken schooling equates to missed learning opportunities.

If there is a problem with getting children to school, this should be discussed with Mrs Murray as soon as possible. Please ensure that children arrive at school on time, properly attired and ready to learn.
